Mikki Afflick
- Biography Born in Colon Panama, raised in Brooklyn, New York, Mikki Afflick is an up and coming DJ and music producer who is on the rise. Afflick comes from a family of musicians and singer’s, and dances to the beat of her own drum. Afflick experienced DJ’ing at the early age of twelve, for one of her father’s basement parties, and learned the true art of beat mixing while in High School. It was not until studying graphic arts in college that she was bit by the Paradise Garage bug this was in mid 1980’s, after seeing and watching Larry Levan spin at the Paradise Garage. Afflick had a belief djing career but she walked away from the party life to pursue becoming a graphic artist, an entrepreneur having a home decorator company, then later becoming a union electrical foreman, holding the title as foreman for the World Trade Center. After the tragic events of 9/11 attacks, Afflick knew she had to fulfill her life long dreams, and pursue music. Afflick enrolled at The New School and studied audio engineering, and SAE for music production, then started her productions in late 2005, with her very first track Soul Sun Dance being spun at WMC 2007 by the legendary DJ Tony Humphries. This is not bad for a virally unknown producer fresh out the box. Afflick was more interested in music production rather than begin a DJ but felt that she had to DJ in order to be respected by her peeps and have her music be spun and heard only the way she would spin it. Afflick quickly developed a reputation among her musical peers as being no joke when it comes to producing and being on the decks. Having DJ ‘ed publicly for only less than a year, has been on performance bills with the likes of Grammy winner Louie Vega, Abicah Soul, Lou Gorbea,Boddi Satva, Black Coffee, MKL, Bradford James, Tyrone Francis, Dj Disciple, Anane, Duce Martinez, Jihad Muhammed, to name a few. Afflick mixes Deep , Soulful House, Afro-Tek, World, and Dance Classics. Afflick is known for her deep mixing , re-edits, and mash ups. Afflick is the C.E.O. and head of A&R for her own digital label Soul Sun Soul Music. Her first single Mating Call topped the Traxsource chart and was added by a dozen Dj’s to their Top 10 list, and remained on the chart of one month. Soul Sun Soul Music has many signed artist including, AV, Mecca Digital Hi-Fi, and Cyndi Tan a female percussionist and singer., Khanya Balani, Dr. Thiza, and Libra Classic.
- There music has been played by some of house musics biggest producers. Louie Vega, Tony Humphries, Joe Cassuelll, Danny Krivit, John "JellyBean " Benitez, Ian Friday, Osunlade, Carlos Mena, to name a few, in only less than two short years. She has executive produced deep underground EP entitled Summer Camp with various artist including Paris Cesvette, Trinidadian Deep, Stephen Rigmaiden, and Bradford James, along with Soul Sun Soul artists Mecca Digtial Hi-Fi, A.V. Libra Claasic, and Khanya Balani which placed this release in the Top 10 Album chart. Afflick ‘s closely guides her artist to display their talents that they are, are true “new” leaders in today’s dance market, and not followers. Which has granted the huge success, Khanya Balani first single was charted by Legendary Tony Humphries on Traxsource Top 10. and placing him at #17 Top Dance chart Top 100 and #19 Soulful chart. Afflick likes to call their style Deep Tek Cinema©. Soul Sun Soul Music’s is music with movement.

Every so often the universe blesses us with an wonderful talent with an incredible gift - Kev Kruz is one such talent. Ever humble and seeing the world from a unique perspective, Kev attributes his vision to his environment. In an interview for System Culture.org, Kev describes how his Spanish Harlem roots shaped his sound.. "A walk to the corner Bodega in the 70's + 80's was a lesson in Plena, Hip Hop, Funk, Jazz, Gospel, R+B...you name it. I could hear it constantly... I'm a typical NYC mutt, a true Nuyorican..LOL .. All of those musical influences came from within my family as well...Hell, the Mecca Digital name is an ode to Harlem and a famous Harlem spot called Mecca Audio. I'm just a digitized version of that old school funk!... Imagine being young and impressionable and waking up to hear Leroy Burgess singing in your living-room or playing outside with Grand Master Flash setting up shop in your neighborhood park. I got bit by the bug Early ..LOL " Kev built on this rich musical legacy at the age of fifteen by working for Lyor Cohen and Russel Simmons as a graphic artist. At the same time he began interning for Bob Powers who was without question Dance and Hip Hop music's premier audio engineer. He assisted sessions for Prince Paul, Masters At Work, Bobby Konders and others. From getting his start as the Rapper/Mc in Mark Ronson's first band to Djaying with the likes of Clark Kent and others, Kev has done it all. In the 90's Kev Kruz cut his teeth as a promoter/Dj in Atlanta Ga.- Cry Freedom Productions was his brainchild and the results were legendary. Nobody expected a House/ Funk / Jazz / Garage vibe to work for rowdy college kids. Not only was it a huge success but the Cry Freedom roster reads like a "who's who" of Atlanta's music scene today. Ever the seeker and visionary Kev took a long hiatus from Djaying and producing to be the front man for Dj Cx Kidtronik's group Furthur 3 Mc's as well as fronting his own creation ' Duese Gangsta ' (also featuring Dj Cx). Both groups have often been compared to Bad Brains or The Beastie Boys and have been known to wreck stages.. So how have all of these experiences blended together to create some of the most inspiring and unique productions in Nyc's Underground House Music scene? Says Kev " I'm all about tearing down walls, bringing people together. If I make a musical choice that excludes too many people, it just doesn't feel right. With House Music if I do my job well as a Dj/Producer, I can get the most people from the most places to lose their mind and express their love for life. That's what Mecca Digital is all about. From the young to the old we can all shine together.." Mecca Digital Hi-Fi is the underground success of NYC 2009. It won't remai "underground" very much longer...

Khanya Balani
Khanya Balani was born in Cape town (SA) raised in Klerksdorp a small city in South Africa. Khanya’s music influence has always been set by his family, from his grandmother exposing him to gospel and traditional music to his uncles always bringing home jazz and hip hop tapes. So in the mid 90’s it was never surprising to find his uncle’s tapes in Khanya’s cupboard ranging from kwaito to R&B music and with an impressive collection of hip hop singles that were appreciated by a few, it was apparent to his family that music was his thing. Up until this time Khanya had never really heard house music till one day on a Friday night while returning from a night praise ceremony with his grandmother he switched on the radio, surfing for a station he came upon metro fm one of the biggest urban radio stations in South Africa and playing on this radio station was a new sound unfamiliar to him. A sound, which was consistent in its rhythm, ever changing and enjoyed by all his older cousins who were in the car with him. He was hooked every Friday and Saturday night you would find him next to his radio listening to Dj mixes till the early hours of the morning. At this point in his life Khanya was use to small town living he had never seen a big city before, in the late 90’s Khanya’s family relocated to Johannesburg and at the age of 11 he had to adjust to a new way of living. Big city life was new to him, he was exposed to bashes (street party’s)and was attending them at the age of 13 with friends from his neighborhood here he could see the dj’s at work and these dj’s played all kinds of house music, it was a new world and this music was becoming so popular so fast. With the introduction of cd’s to Khanya and his friends, famous local dj’s who were packaging songs from all over the world into compilations were idols to him, with the different styles of house in his collection of compilations he’s taste of music was refined, he would hear songs from Kerri Chandler with his raw and pure deep sounds on track 1 to MAW with there upbeat and urban sound on track 12. He absorbed everything like a new baby learning about the world.
Through high school Khanya was just an admirer of the genre, up until 2007 on his final year of high school thinking he would go study law his close friend Steven Hollenbach asked him why doesn’t he go with him to a dj school instead his best friend Brendan Hollenbach suggested that he learn how to make music. With no previous knowledge of song making or playing any instrument Khanya applied at the Academy of Sound Engineering where he was part of 200 students chosen to study there. To keep his family satisfied he majored in broadcast but was never shy to go into studio and listen to people jam, becoming familiar with software’s such as Reason and Pro Tools , Khanya was learning to make his own music and falling back on the knowledge he’d read from music books he had bought in college, he was learning something that he had passionately listened to through out his life, which brought him so much joy and happiness. On his final year Khanya had made friends with many producers and dj’s at college who would give him tracks to dub mix or remix which lead to him taking the music home, and at his own pace and at the comfort of his own home his passion for making music saw him go out less on weekends, instead he would stay home and nurture his talent. Producing for two and a half years and reaching new levels Khanya Balani is an addition which hopes to be a veteran in house music.
Khanya Balani's first single "Again was charted by Tony Humphries Top 10 and placed his first single at #17 on the Traxsource Top 100 chart.
Look out for Khanya Balani LP coming in Spring 2011 entitled "Vanity" on Soul Sun Soul Music

Cyndi Tan
Cyndi was raised by avid music lovers, records and reel to reel from her Dad’s Jethro Tull to her Mum’s Stevie Wonder collection. “She used to sit right in front of the speakers in her nappies and rock!” says her Father.
Cyn was a late starter at 18 when she heard guaguanco for the first time at a hippy festival, dancing naked in an Australian sub-tropical rainforest.
When asked to dance for “Sambole African Dance Troupe” she replied, “I want to drum for your dance classes, rehearsals, anything… Just let me play!” A month later she nailed her first residency in an all-girl Samba band on Johnston St, Melbourne’s Latin Quarter
A year on Cyn joined Acid-Jazz line up, “Sons of Invention”, and experienced what it meant to be a session musician. She also played for physical theatre and circus performers. It was a stilt walking fire twirling group that toured her to Adelaide festival, the first year Cuban trumpet virtuoso Arturo Sandoval played Australia.
After the Arturo concert, Cyn jumped the stage, found the band room and percussionist, Eguie Castrillo. She pushed her way through many Latino’s to find Eguie surrounded in the back corner. She broke into the conversation, extended an open hand and said, “Hi, my name is Cyndi, will you teach me Afro-Cuban technique?” The room exploded with laughter… Eguie remained serious. He gave her his number and said, “Call me tomorrow at 11a.m. sharp.”
After 7 years of performance, Cyn attended Southern Cross University to attain a Bachelor of Music Composition & Studio Production. She then returned to Sydney, continued to session and teach “World Music Choir”, saved and took a study tour to Brazil and Cuba.
Since Sth America, Cyndi facilitated corporate team-building events. She has played Australia wide and internationally with bands, sound systems, physical theatre groups, dance ensembles, choirs and orchestras alike.
She worked with the Tapdogs, Ministry of Sound, HedKandi, Els Comidienes, Martini Club, Lafiesta Sound System and The Tommy Tiko Orchestra and many more at the biggest events in Australia including Big Day Out, Good Vibrations, The East Coast Blues & Roots, Woodford Folk Festival, Bellingen Global Carnival, The Sydney Gay Lesbian Mardi Gras, the Adelaide Festival and many more...
Cyndi attended Berklee College of Music, Boston MA for the 2009 Percussion Festival. She re-united with her original teacher, Eguie Castrillo, who introduced her to Larry Braggs at a CTA gig. Larry, the singer from the Tower of Power, introduced Cyn to Quest Love who invited her to guest with the legendary Roots Crew.
